POLICE: Clothing set on fire at Hardy Park

Brockville police are investigating a fire at Hardy Park on Thursday.

City police were called at about 11:30 a.m. to assist the Brockville Fire Department. Firefighters had extinguished a small fire. Witnesses reported observing an unidentified male light articles of clothing on fire and then leave the area.

He is described as five-foot-eight to five-foot-nine, with a slender to medium build and wearing a blue shirt. A police news release does not provide an age estimate.

Shirts stolen from rack

Brockville Police are investigating the theft of several items from a clothes rack in front of a downtown clothing store on Thursday.

Officers were called to the store at about 1:45. An unidentified female had allegedly removed a number of shirts from the rack, placed them into a bag she was carrying and fled eastbound on King Street on her bicycle.

The suspect is described as wearing white jeans, a purple shirt and having her hair in a ponytail. Police did not provide other details.

Watch out for scams

Brockville residents are being targeted by fraudsters again, according to city police.

Brockville police received a call on Thursday evening from a Brockville-area woman who went to check on her elderly father who resides in the city. She observed that her father had a large number of gift cards on his kitchen table. She learned that he had been the victim of a scam in which her father had been encouraged to purchase gift cards to pay a bill, police said Friday.
