It’s seller beware when it comes to old gold and jewellery – Kelowna News

Inflation and high interest rates have people looking for money in different ways.

According to Premier Jewellery and Loans in Kelowna, more people seem to be rummaging through old jewellery boxes and stopping by the shop to help make ends meet.

“We have definitely seen a large increase in clients coming in. It could be post Christmas, it could be the effects of inflation or possibly a recession coming. But we have definitely seen an increase,” said owner Martin Strasser.

“You have gold, diamonds or watches sitting in a box and now you have a bill that’s due or inflation is hitting you. Your money doesn’t go as far as it used to, so you want to find a way to stretch those dollars.”

Premier Jewellery and Loans loaned Castanet two pieces of jewellery and a gold coin to help in a market assessment of local and pop-up jewellery buyers.

Premier provided a 9.61 gram 10K yellow gold ring, an older style engagement ring with 18K gold and 0.42 carat diamonds and a one ounce Canadian gold coin .

Castanet took the same two rings and the gold coin and had them appraised at Canadian Jewellery Exchange in Kelowna and GLK Gold, a pop-up buyer that visited the city last weekend.

Premier was the only shop aware Castanet was running the story at the time appraisal.

Jewellery Exchange offered a comparative appraisal to Premier and was open about the engagement ring‘s potential lack of movement in consignment.

Jewellery Exchange appraiser Mark Schlitt said in an interview afterwards every shop has different interests.

“Premier might have a different clientele for jewellery than we do. In their case they may have a buyer for a certain piece or we may have a buyer for a certain piece

Divya Agarwal returns ex-boyfriend Varun Sood’s ‘khandani’ jewellery

Mumbai: Divya Agarwal surprised everyone last year by announcing her breakup with Varun Sood. The actress, who won Bigg Boss OTT, has moved on for good and is all set to tie the knot with fiance Apurva Padgaonkar soon. However, it is her past that has crept back and made her retort to some of the accusations that have been levelled against her publicly.

It started a few days ago when Varun did a Q&A session with fans on Twitter wherein he was asked if he cheated on Divya. He replied, “I didn’t bro.” Next was Varun’s sister Akshita who alleged that Divya had not returned their family jewellery. The controversial tweets were deleted later.

However, Divya noticed them and replied sternly. She began with the tweet, “I’m going to speak … very soon ❤️” And when someone called her ‘attention seeker’, she replied, “Yeah wanted that attention from him, I didn’t get hence left …”

And after the jewellery claims by Varun’s sister, Divya tweeted, “Omg not just that. Take it all!! It was anyway about give and take…but can someone stop talking as they get attention from it on news portals!”

On Thursday (Feb 23), Divya tweeted a photo of the jewellery and wrote, “Giving back the ‘jewellery’😂” Not just this, in another post, she shared that she is also sending some ‘kisses’ chocolates with it.

Looking at this, a fan reminded her how Varun had also given her his jersey on Ace Of Space. But Divya told him, “That jersey was just on the show… he took it back just after we came out of the house 😂”

To a fan, Divya also revealed, “Na kabhi pehna na kabhi maanga. Ek saal baad yaad aaya.” The reality show star also added indirectly how Varun and his sister

It’s a sell-out: Industry mood positive ahead of Australian Jewellery Fair

For the second consecutive year the Australian Jewellery Fair (AJF) has sold out far in advance of opening day.

The AJF will be hosted at the International Convention Centre in Sydney’s Darling Harbour on 18-19 March.

The AJF has been timed to take place prior to Mother’s Day (14 May), giving retailers the opportunity to stock the latest ranges ahead of a crucial period of trading.

Three major buying groups – Nationwide Jewellers, Independent Jewellers Collective, and Leading Edge Jewellers – will each host stands after a productive Melbourne Jewellery Expo, which was also a sell-out event. The GAA will also be at the event.

Expertise Events managing director Gary Fitz-Roy told Jeweller that the most valuable thing available at the AJF for suppliers and retailers alike would be ‘opportunity’.

“We are thrilled to see such a high level of interest in the Australian Jewellery Fair this year. We’ve been anticipating a high turnout, but didn’t expect it would sell out so quickly,” Fitz-Roy said.

“We are confident that the fair will provide a valuable opportunity for retailers and sellers to discover new ranges, to build connections, and to reconnect within the industry.”

Fitz-Roy explained that a new initiative had been introduced for AJF: “The fair will also feature free all-day catering, so retailers and sellers can maximise their time and enjoy a free lunch. This is just one of the ways we are working to make the fair an enjoyable and productive experience for everyone involved”.

For additional information or to register in advance visit the Australian Jewellery Fair website.

Jewellery Trends To Invest In 2023, With Tarini Manchanda

We spoke to the entrepreneur and jewellery enthusiast about trends she perceives will set the tone for 2023

2023 is shaping to be an exciting year for jewellery, with new trends merging with classic statements that make us appreciate a good bauble. Elizabeth Taylor summed it up for the rest of us: “Jewellery has the power to be the one little thing that makes you feel unique.” And in this age of self-expression, few things measure up to the right piece of bling.

Social media influencer and entrepreneur Tarini Manchanda loves her jewels as much as the next person. While Gen Z and millennials drive the luxury jewellery market, Manchanda predicts what 2023 holds for this industry.

Mixing Metals

It might have been sacrilege to wear your gold and silver bracelets together but times are changing. It is here that stacking will come to your aid. “I love mixing metals (who said gold and silver can’t be worn together?), and I like to stack and layer smaller pieces together,” shares Manchanda. Add the bling to a classic dress or satin shirt, and you’re good to go.

Polki Much

Polki jewellery has been a bridal favourite, and thankfully, the style has been embraced by grooms too; case in point: Sidharth Malhotra’s wedding look where he wore handcrafted Manish Malhotra polki jewellery by Raniwala 1881. Manchanda agrees with the trend, albeit with a difference. “A great way to wear your traditional polki jewellery is to use it in contemporary ways. You can definitely pair a big polki set with black western clothes and unique necklines.”

Dopamine Colours

Coloured stones and jewels are in vogue. There are multiple reasons why. For Manchanda, these colours are best worn in contrast. “Contrast your jewellery and your clothes! Think of emeralds worn with red, sapphire

Stylist’s picks of rings and bracelets

Picking presents can be hard. And unless you have a friend who isn’t afraid to tell you exactly what they want – whether it’s borderline rude or a stroke of genius is still up for debate – knowing where to start is near impossible. Books, beauty and bathtime goodies are all a regular go-to, but what about when you’re after something with a bit more of a personal touch?

Let us introduce you to birthstone jewellery, an easy way to give a gorgeous gift with that added thoughtful element, and one of this summer’s biggest jewellery trends.

Similar to zodiac signs, birthstones – as the name suggests – relate to the month people are born, with twelve precious and semi-precious stones making up the list. Although the origin of the birthstone list is still up for debate, with multiple variations all attributing different gems to each month, which can make it a little bit tricky to know where to start.

We’ve gone for the most universally accepted versions we could find, curating a list of rings, bracelets, necklaces and more to suit every style and budget. But, be warned, not every birthstone is made equally, and you’ll soon find out why we’re wanting to fudge our birth certs to being born in April, July or September.

Of course, birthstone jewellery isn’t just made for you to give away either, for who better to gift than yourself, after all? Or take inspiration and pop it on your own birthday list, rather than be left with socks, for that’s certainly what we plan to do.

How your jewellery is secretly ageing you

It used to be the case that you could tell a woman’s age by her shoes. Now that everyone wears Veja trainers or Birkenstocks all the time, it’s not quite that simple. Jewellery, however, is another story. At a recent family wedding, my 60-year-old aunt wore a Vampire’s Wife mini dress, while floral tea dresses were worn by 30-somethings and septuagenarians alike. But what really set the generations apart was their jewellery. Gen Z cousins stacked every finger and thumb with silver, my millennial sisters and friends layered up their fine yellow-gold chains, and the 50-plus contingent wore ropes of pearls or chandelier earrings.

More than handbags or coats or shoes, jewellery can be a marker of maturity. As stylishly bejewelled women (who may well have a personal stylist to hand) know, simple swaps can take years off your look.

The Goop glow is not Gwyneth Paltrow’s only age-defying weapon. The 49-year-old has mastered the #neckmess: an artful arrangement of gold chains and necklaces that’s an elevated update on the gold pendants of a decade ago. Where once it was all about a single charm on a dainty chain – there’s barely a 40-something alive who didn’t covet Alex Monroe’s Bee Necklace – now the neck is a heaving mass of gold chains, beads, initials, zodiac signs and symbols, with the odd diamond necklace thrown in for good measure. Paltrow pairs her neckmess with everything from Grecian-inspired gowns to T-shirts and bikinis. A ubiquitous look amongst 20- and 30-somethings, the neckmess is also beloved by J-Lo, Sarah Jessica Parker and Eva Longoria. When 47-year-old Longoria wore a white suit at the Taormina Film Festival in June, she heaped her arms and neck with gold chains galore.

The thing is, jewellery is more than mere accessory. It carries huge
