Dior stood by Johnny throughout his recent trial, and sales of the cologne he advertises, Sauvage, rose at retailers, the Wall Street Journal reported in early June.

The publication stated that the cosmetics retailer and its competitor Ulta have both seen increasing sales for Depp’s cologne, making it among their top-selling fragrances online.

Meanwhile, Johnny is still entangled in legal battles with his Amber Heard – as the actress fights to overturn a court’s June settlement against her.

He was awarded $10.35 million for damages after a defamation suit against his ex-wife.

But The Aquaman actress has appealed for the award to be overturned, two months after she was ordered to pay.

Amber was denied a request for a mistrial a week before, arguing that one of the jurors on the case shouldn’t have been eligible to serve because his summons was intended for his father, who had the same name and lived at the same address.

“What A Come Back!” Dior Sticks With Depp, Renewing Seven-Figure Sauvage Contract Despite DV Allegations

French fashion house Dior has reappointed Johnny Depp as the face of its men’s fragrance Sauvage for a reported multi-million dollar sum.

Depp, 59, has fronted the brand since 2017 in a then $US5 million deal; however, there was speculation he may have been punted following his recent and highly publicised defamation case against his former wife, Amber Heard.

Depp ultimately won the case in early June and was awarded $US15 million ($A21 million) in damages by the presiding judge.

According to the Business of Fashion, Sauvage is now the biggest selling fragrance in the world, be it men’s or women’s.

Dior halted its Depp-fronted marketing during the defamation trial but immediately restarted it – both outdoor and TVCs – once Depp won the case.

Interestingly, Depp’s Dior campaign was criticised in 2019 for allegedly misappropriating native Indian culture.

And the evidence appears to be the brand has made the right move, with social media largely favourable of the actor and musician’s reappointment.

And maths appear to be in Depp’s and Dior’s favour. During the height of the defamation case – that hogged newspaper headlines across the globe –  Dior reported a marked upswing in sales of the men’s fragrance that many pundits put down to as a show of support for the maligned actor.

Meanwhile, others agitated that Dior should’ve parted ways with the Pirates Of The Caribbean star due to allegations of domestic abuse that arose during the trial.

On Monday, the French fashion house shared a series of photos to Instagram featuring monotone stills of Depp before he joined Jeff Beck on stage in Paris, as well as a video of him talking about the cologne.

And it appears social media is on Depp’s side, many people posting their support of the brand for sticking

Depp began his collaboration with Dior back in 2015 and continued it throughout his divorce from Amber Heard. Dior paused airing the Sauvage commercial on TV when accusations of domestic violence circulated but it doesn’t seem that the brand ever completely dropped the Pirates of the Caribbean star.

At the time, the move was seen as controversial by some, with calls from the public for Depp to be removed as a Dior ambassador. But since his win at the defamation trial against Heard in the US in June, the actor’s now firmly back in the Dior fold and his ads are airing again. There are reports swirling that he’s signed a seven-figure deal with the luxury label.

Fans have largely responded positively to the partnership’s revival. “This is awesome news!” commented one Instagram user one of posts shared by Dior Beauty.

Others commented, “Good to see Johnny back!”, “What a come back story!” and “we love you forever”.

Another said, “Well Johnny, it’s wonderful to see you have found your inner tranquility. It’s all in your smile! Welcome back beautiful man!”

‘Dior would roll in his grave’

johnny-depp” data-ylk=”slk:Johnny Depp” class=”link “Johnny Depp has reportedly signed a multi-year, seven-figure contract with Dior.

The contract will see Depp pocket a reported US$1m (£868,000) for returning as the face of Sauvage fragrance for men.

To announce the deal, Dior posted a video of Depp on stage in Paris where he performed with Jeff Beck.

The caption of the post read: “Watch @johnnydepp as he takes the stage at @olympiahall in Paris, the legendary concert venue where he saw @vanessa.paradis and introduced his kids to @bobdylan. Like Sauvage, it represents the idea of something fearless yet human. By: @gregwilliamsphotography.”

While Depp had never been dropped by Dior during the defamation trial with ex-wife Amber Heard, which Depp won, the post is a sign that the brand intends to continue its relationship with the actor.

Fans were quick to comment on Dior’s post, with one person writing: “Love your support for Johnny.”

Another added: “Dior supporting legends,” while a third said: “Dior y’all real for stayin with JD the whole time.”

However, some fans of the brand weren’t so keen on the news, with one person on Twitter writing: “Christian Dior would roll in his grave knowing Johnny Depp is the ambassador for his fragrance. #BoycottDior.”

The video came after Dior posted teaser shots of the campaign showing Depp at the Paris show.

“Backstage at @olympiahall before the last show. Fearless yet human, just like Sauvage,” one set of images was captioned.

The brand included a quote from Depp on another post promoting the fragrance that read: “Sauvage brings me a lot of memories, a lot of shows. Things that you smelled growing up that if I smell it, it takes me right back and I see the person that used to wear it. It’s a
